Electro-Harmonix POG2

POG is short for Polyphonic Octave Generator and Electro-Harmonix (EHX) offers three of them in an equal amount of sizes and price brackets. There’s the smallest and most affordable Nano POG, the mid-range Micro POG, and this full-size POG – now known as the POG2. As the name implies, it’s an octave generator pedal, but with some added features including voice and effect mixers (which don’t exist on the smaller versions).

Overview

The original polyphonic octave generator was released in 2005 by EHX, which then followed up with the POG2 in 2009. It has little in common with early octave/fuzz pedals, but still offers a rich variety of sounds, ranging from the clean, 12-string-like to thick walls of much more exotic, symphonic-like sound.

Some of the news in the POG2 is an attack control that provides you with more punch or what’s more of a smooth fade-in. Also, EHX has added a second sub-octave option that drops you down even more. Another option is what EHX calls a 2-pole resonant low-pass filter.

Perhaps more importantly, considering the large variety of sounds produced by the POG2, you can now save your settings and recall them with a click. Compared to the first POG, the POG2 is a much better option for the vast majority of guitarists. Like most if not all EHX pedals, this one is robustly built and comes in a diecast casing. A 9V power supply is included in the package.
